TV Theme Songs, the 90s, and me

I love theme songs.  “But they take away time from the show,” you say.  “But they’re corny,” you say.  “But it’s the same thing every week, who cares,” you say.

Well, suck it, because theme songs are awesome.

I believe this deep and abiding love began as a young cartoon fan.  The late 80s/early 90s were an awesome time for theme songs on children’s shows.  Sometimes, this pops into my head for no reason at all.  I will never escape it.

That doesn’t seem right: Clorox has dangling modifier issues

I’ve been watching the Mad Men marathon on AMC today, and they’ve shown an ad for Clorox Bleach several times.  I’ve seen the ad before, but never really paid much attention to it.  Perhaps it was the effects of watching a show about advertising, but I ended up paying closer attention to it than normal and realized that, well, someone didn’t give the thought to the copy they probably should have.

Thursday nights: sitcom heaven

Thursday nights have really had some great sitcoms over the last 30 years.  The Cosby Show, Taxi, Cheers, Wings, Frasier, Friends, Will & Grace, Scrubs…

And now, tonight, two of my very favorite sitcoms, and two of the best shows on television, 30 rock and the Office.  Oh, shows, how I’ve missed you.

She’s gonna make it after all

Hulu is convenient for a lot of shows, but one of the things I really enjoy about it is the supply of classic shows.  I used to watch Mary Tyler Moore when I was younger, but it had been a very long time since I’ve seen it.  The last few days, I’ve been watching random episodes from the first three seasons, and it’s made me think a lot about female characters on television.
