Great moments in musicals: Mother Goose Rock ‘n’ Rhyme

Do you remember Mother Goose Rock n Rhyme?  It was a Disney Channel movie from 1990, and it was a glorious bit of weirdness.  The story follows Little Bo Peep, played by Shelley Duvall, as she goes to see Mother Goose to help her find her sheep.  Mother Goose isn’t there, though, so instead, Bo Peep goes to find Mother Goose’s bitter, nursery rhyme hating son Gordon Goose.  As Bo Peep and Gordon go on a quest to find Mother Goose, the rest of Mother Goose’s characters start to go missing.

Meanwhile, there are songs, and appearances by: Bobby Brown, Art Garfunkel, Paul Simon (not together), Cyndi Lauper, Woody Harrelson, Debbie Harry, Katey Segal, Howie Mandel, Cheech Marin, Pia Zadora, and Little Richard, among others.

WATCH THE WHOLE MOVIE.  It’s worth it.

There are several weird-ass, awesome musical numbers, but THIS ONE is where Gordon angers Little Richard as Old King Cole and is sent to the dungeons  And the comes this song.  This part scared the crap out of me when I was younger.  (It still sort of does, like WHAT IS WITH THOSE MASKS?)

    a) I am still so happy I have this on tape. It is so amazingly weird.
    b) THAT PART SCARED ME, TOO. It’s terrifying! I’m not even going to watch it right now. The Crooked Man also used to scare me.
